Welcome to Gales Ferry & Juliet W. Long

Two buildings, One School!

Our school is special #1

Hello and Welcome to Gales Ferry/Juliet Long Elementary School.  We are a Kindergarten through Fifth Grade school located in the Gales Ferry section of the town of Ledyard.  We have close to 500 students in our school and we are very proud of each and every student.  Our staff’s goal, mission, and purpose is to help every student find and achieve their potential.  We consider ourselves very fortunate to partner with families and caregivers in this endeavor.

Partnering with Families

During any school year, communication between home and school is critical to your student’s success and vital to feeling like a part of the school community.  We view the cohesive efforts of families (home), the school, and our students to be the secret sauce for success.   It is vital for our caregivers at home to ensure they stay connected through all the avenues of communication that our school utilizes: the school website, weekly communication from the school, class newsletters, emails, and individual home communication.

If you are not receiving any of these communications or if your contact information changes, please contact the school directly to speak to our school secretaries.

Attendance

Regular school attendance is vital to your child’s growth and development.  Our school-wide attendance team meets regularly to review individual student and school attendance patterns and trends.  If you are experiencing any challenges regarding your student(s)'s attendance, please reach out. We are here to support our students and their families. If you need to call your child out of school due to illness, please contact the school's main office at the phone numbers listed below.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

We have Arrival and Dismissal procedures in place to ensure a consistent flow of student traffic in and out of the school.  Doors open at 8:25 each morning, and if you are child arrives after 8:40, they are considered tardy.  The school day ends at 3:10. Afterwards, the buses leave, and we begin our student car-line pick-up.  We appreciate all of our caregivers for their cooperation and patience with these procedures.  All families receive specific information about our arrival and dismissal procedures at the start of the school year or when they join our community. Please note: we ask any family to call the school and email your child(ren)'s teacher if picking up early. We also request that student pick-up occurs before 2:45. We acknowledge that emergencies may arise. Dismissal is a busy time of day, and our goal is to keep all our students safe and accounted for at all times.
