Hello and Welcome to Gales Ferry/Juliet Long Elementary School. We are a Kindergarten through Fifth Grade school located in the Gales Ferry section of the town of Ledyard. We have close to 500 students in our school and we are very proud of each and every student. Our staff’s goal, mission, and purpose is to help every student find and achieve their potential. We consider ourselves very fortunate to partner with families and caregivers in this endeavor.
Communication
During any school year, communication between home and school is critical to your student’s success and vital to feeling like a part of the school community. Especially during these unprecedented times, communication is essential. It is important for our caregivers at home to make sure they stay connected through all of the avenues of communication that our school utilizes:
Weekly emails/messages from the principal
The district-wide School Messenger application that goes to your phone and email.
Daily and weekly messages from your child’s teacher
The website’s archive of past school messages. Just click on School Communications.
And don’t forget to check your child’s folder and backpack!
If you are not receiving any of these communications or if your contact information changes, please contact the school directly to speak to our school secretaries.
Attendance
If you are calling your child out of school due to an illness, please contact the school main office at the phone numbers below.
Gales Ferry School - Ms. Jennifer Conn - (860)464-7664
Juliet Long School - Mrs. Lydia DelGrosso - (860)464-2780
If you have a specific health question, please contact our school nurse, Heather Leaf, directly at (860)464-2458 (GFS) or Angela Knerr at (860)464-6929 (JWL).
Regular school attendance is vital to your child’s growth and development. Our school wide attendance team meets regularly to review individual student and school patterns of absences and tardiness. On days when students are learning remotely, students are still considered to be “in school” and need to be present so that they can continue to learn. We will eventually find ourselves on the other side of this pandemic and we want our students to be exactly where they need to be and should be in their academic growth.
Since the beginning of the school year, we have Arrival and Dismissal procedures in place to make sure we have a consistent flow of student traffic in and out of the school. Doors open at 8:25 each morning and if you are child arrives after 8:40, they are considered tardy. The school day ends at 3:10. Afterwards the buses leave, we begin our student car-line pick up. We appreciate all of our caregivers for their cooperation and patience with these procedures.
Food Services
Ledyard Public Schools partners with Chartwells to offer breakfast and lunch services for students. Families need to Pre-Order meals. Links to pre-order and monthly menus can be found on the district webpage.
