Our School

Gales Ferry School
"Proud to be Ledyard Colonels"

Gales Ferry School is a modern school with approximately 200 students, preschool through second grade. There are three classes at grade levels K-1 and four classes for second grade.

Our state of the art facility includes a beautiful library, large computer lab and regulation size gymnasium with a stage.

Early literacy, numeracy and science are top priorities at Gales Ferry School. Classroom teachers regularly administer formative assessments and use data to shape instruction. This year, we are implementing NWEA MAP, a computer-based assessment.

Respect is the cornerstone of our school culture. Teachers implement Responsive Classroom techniques, building the classroom into a community, which fosters responsibility, self-discipline, and a sense of caring for self and others.

Our students enjoy a variety of field trips. Students in first and second grade classes attend cultural performances at The Garde Arts Theater in New London. Kindergarten students visit the Dennison Pequotsepos Nature Center.

Close home-school communication is encouraged at Gales Ferry School. A school newsletter is sent home monthly highlighting activities and events. Many classroom teachers have websites or use a group email to share important information. Teachers are always available by email. Simply enter the teacher's first initial and his/her last name @ledyard.net.

The PTO is very active in supporting our school. It provides trips, educational programs, and the volunteers to support and enhance everyday learning.
